Hurricane cut
Sabal palms are harvested from forest areas in Florida where they grow naturally. When a Sabal palm is transplanted and shipped it is cut to a hurricane cut style for two reasons: the plants energy can be focused on the root system rather than the foliage and when it is planted it catches less wind therefor having a lower chance of blowing over before the roots effectively anchor the tree. The majority of Sabal palms planted in the Panhandle area are hurricane cut.
Regenerated Sabal palms have been given time to regenerate their foliage and roots. This is more desirable because it is immediately pretty without having to wait for foliage to grow in. A regenerated palm tree's tendendency to catch more wind before the roots have time to grow into the sand and anchor the palm can be offset by using a palm tree brace.
